Sherlock is on the case ………. Elementary, my dear

On 21 January at Westhoughton Roger Sherlock was installed as WM of Anderton Lodge No 8470 by Andrew Ashton in an

excellent ceremony watched by a large attendance that included 16 Grand Officers.Has anyone come forward with a decent

collective noun for such a gathering?

Both Provincial Grand Wardens were also present and occupied the Wardens chairs for the ceremony. David Kavanagh,

Provincial Junior Grand Warden, is a member of the lodge.

The principal guest, Stuart Thornber, representing the Provincial Grand Master, congratulated Roger on attaining the

Chair of his lodgeand commented that he had been well and truly installed by his predecessor in a top quality and moving

ceremony. He wished ‘Rodge from the Lodge’ good health, happiness and  success in the year ahead. The new WM

presented a cheque for £1250 to Stuart for the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity.

At the festive board Stuart paid tribute to Anderton Lodge for its huge contribution to the success of the Masonic Samaritan

Fund’s 2010 Festival, of which he had been the Chairman. He said the lodge had been among the very top contributors in the

Province towards the total sum raised of £5.4 million and, through the Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Frank Wilkinson,

had also been in the front line of the organisation of the celebratory weekend. Frank had conceived, arranged and managed

the whole series of events, which had been spectacularly successful. A raffle after dinner raised £345 for Masonic charities.
