Lodge helps church hit by lead thieves
A Chorley lodge has made a donation of £1,000 to a church which has had lead stripped from its roof by thieves.
The theft was revealed by Rev Graham Halsall Provincial Grand Chaplain who is also the vicar at Saint Saviours Church, Bamber Bridge. At a special service to
another Masonic order Graham explained to the congregation that the church is undergoing a modernisation project and thieves had stolen the lead from the
church roof, which was the reason for the buckets collecting the drips.
He said the church is a grade two listed building and he did not know yet if the roof could be repaired or would need to be replaced at a cost of more than £200,000.
On hearing this Iain Simpson the Master of Chorley Lodge No 6287 decided that he would like to donate £1,000 from the funds he and the members of Chorley Lodge
had raised during his year as worshipful master.
Graham said that this was a wonderful donation and a good start to the fund raising for the roof repairs.
